'Sil' from Species: 'Skinniest Bitch' in Sci-Fi?

Could you resist a diet book called 'Skinny Bitch'? Not many people could, apparently, as it was a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

"A no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous!"
'Skinny Bitch', by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin

So what's the skinny on the 'Skinny Bitch' diet?

The biggest change is that it's vegan, which makes me doubt the authors' 'bitch' credentials, as they're very concerned with animal welfare.

It does make sense for a diet though, including less animal fat and more plants for a start.

It's also a diet that tries to avoid artificial food additives and over-processed foods, in line with health recommendations, and has no faith in government agencies for food regulation, thereby neatly combining both political extremes of dieters 🙂

These recommendations are backed up by some shocking examples of animal cruelty in slaughterhouses and failures in oversight by government regulatory agencies, along with useful information about vegan nutrition.

In between, it's quite a fun book to read if you don't mind a bit of swearing and enjoy bluntness to the point of rudeness: Cigarettes are for losers, soda is liquid Satan, etc. I quite liked it, anyway.

And why the girl from Species?

I try to pick a story or character for each diet, that will help motivate me to stick to it and succeed. So, for a start she has a figure I wouldn't cry about.

But am I being a bit mean to poor little lab-bred half-alien Sil?

Come on. I mean, I felt sorry for her at first too...

But she's a pure and simple half-alien psychopath - you know the type:

See? Needlessly murders homeless people and nice, kind guards on trains.

Kidnaps, tortures and brutally murders that poor lady that stops to help her (remember the thumbs?! urgh!).

Also, she is skinny - maybe not the skinniest 'thing' in sci-fi, but possibly the hungriest!

Not very vegan though.

The Rules

The Skinny Bitch Diet, available at AbeBooks

Beyond the veganism, there are a few other basic rules as well:

  1. Don't eat breakfast till you're hungry, and then only eat fruit. Eat one pieces of fruit, wait about 10 minutes and if you're still hungry eat another one, and then another 10 minutes later.
  2. Again, don't eat lunch till you're very hungry, and then eat something like salad if you can.
  3. Something vegan for dinner, and again, not till you're hungry.
  4. The only alcohol allowed is organic red wine.
  5. And finally, exercise, or as they put it, "You need to exercise, you lazy shit" (!) Ok...

This Week's Other Challenges

  • Find a vegan alternative to milk in tea or coffee
  • Find some vegan chocolate pudding. Then eat it all on a train and build some kind of disgusting cocoon thing.
  • Watch Species. A weird film: starts off interesting and ends up stupid (IMHO)

So, am I a 'Skinny Bitch' yet? Find out how I got on!

  2. This sounds like such a fun book – I will have to check it out. One of my favourite cookbooks at the moment is Thug Kitchen which is kinda similar – vegan and a lot of swearing 🙂

    • LOL – Thug Kitchen sounds like something I should look out for 🙂

    • Love the way people think you can just get big over night!! It takes mthnos maybe years to gain weight if you struggle like me, it’s not muscle in a? can!!. There’s always been naturally thin people like myself but I’m cut to death. I get fat people asking me how I’ve done it in the gym and I prefer to be this way Also going on a weight gain diet isn’t healthy for you at all! It’s been proven to short you’re life and you’re organs struggle to process all the protein. I really feel sorry for p

  3. This sounds wickedly funny. But the basic formula for eating is a good one. Thanks for an interesting perspective on eating. However, I don’t want to be a bitch.

  4. I’m sure glad you reviewed this, because I probably wouldn’t have read it (with a title like that!). Your basic tips from it sound like they’d work, since there’s not a lot of eating involved, and of course eating just when you are really hungry is a good tip. And exercising.

  5. Wow this is a very interesting post. Skinny bitch diet lol humm
